Senior Daniel Stanley (Henrico, VA/Varina) helped the EMU baseball team to a sweep at Hampden-Sydney on Saturday, and today the Old Dominion Athletic Conference named him the Pitcher of the Week. This is the second time this season Stanley has won the award and the third time a Royal has been honored by the ODAC.
In his one start of the week, Stanley shut down Hampden-Sydney in a 7-0 complete game shutout. Eastern Mennonite's ace threw his third complete game shutout of the year, and his first nine-inning affair, holding the Tigers to just five hits.
Stanley improves to 4-2 with a 2.47 ERA on the season with his fourth complete game. He leads the ODAC in complete games and shutouts, is 2nd in wins and 7th in ERA. The right hander was also named Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 4 after shutting out North Carolina Wesleyan 3-0 to open the year.
With Tuesday's non-conference game against Averett cancelled because of snow, the Royals hope to be able to play Wednesday at home against Washington and Lee. At 13-10, EMU is already tied for the most wins in a season since 2004. The men are also 3-3 in the ODAC.
