Augsburger Back On All-State First Team

Augsburger Back On All-State First Team

Senior Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) has wrapped up her collegiate career with one more award, earning a second straight spot on the VaSID All-State First Team.

This is her third year being honored by the Virginia Sports Information Directors after being named to the Second Team as a sophomore.

As a senior on EMU's field hockey team, Augsburger moved from her spot as a defender up to the midfield and responded with her best statistical season. She racked up seven goals and four assists for 18 points, setting or tying her career high in each category. Augsburger caged game-winners against Ferrum and Hendrix, and finished her final campaign well, scoring five goals with four assists over her final seven games.

Augsburger tied for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference lead with three penalty strokes and was the only player among the leaders to convert all of her attempts.

She was also one of only two ODAC women selected to the original roster for the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Senior Game.

Augsburger is the first EMU player to earn multiple All-State First Team awards since Alyssa Derstine, who accomplished the honor three straight years from 2007 to 2009.

Despite playing most of her time as a defender, Augsburger finished her career with 17 goals and 12 assists for 46 points.

In Coach Ashley Kisner's first season, Eastern Mennonite earned a record of 5-12.
