Royals Climb Board At ODAC Championships

At their inaugural ODAC Championships, the EMU golf men made a big jump in the bad weather of day two, and held on to finish eighth as a team.  The Royals totaled a 1010 (+146) at the three-day tournament at Bay Creek in Cape Charles, VA.

After sitting in last place with a 354 on Sunday, Eastern Mennonite made the biggest improvement of any team on day two, shaving 28 strokes despite windy and rainy conditions.  The Royals jumped both Roanoke and Virginia Wesleyan on Monday, and then shot a 330 today to hold on to their position.

Freshman Josh Alderfer (Faber, VA/Nelson County) led the men throughout, scoring his low round of 79 (+7) on the final day to card a 244 (+28).  Alderfer finished tied for 19th overall.  Senior Jonathan Leaman (Broadway, VA/Broadway) had the Royals' low round of the tournament with a 77 (+5) on Tuesday.  He totaled a 249 (+33) to tie for 27th.

Andre Swartzentruber (Keezletown, VA/Spotswood) had an 82 (+10) for his best round and carded a 259 (+43) to tie for 39th.  Caleb Schlabach (Millersburg, OH/Hiland) finished a stroke behind him at 260 (+44).  His low round was an 81.  Joel Murray (Hesston, KS/Hesston) added a 279 (+63).

Guilford College led from start to finish and won their third consecutive team crown with a 914 (+50).  Noah Ratner finished two under par on Tuesday and won medalist honors with a 224 (+8).
