The Eastern Mennonite men's soccer team announced their 2013 schedule today, and they will play three teams which qualified for the last year's National Championships. The Royals have an 18-game slate, including seven home games.
The new season opens with games at the Mary Washington Soccer Classic in Fredericksburg, Va., on Aug. 30 and 31. The home opener is Wednesday, Sept. 11, when Lebanon Valley comes to town. That Saturday, the Royals have their ODAC opener against Virginia Wesleyan, also in Harrisonburg.
Unfortunately for local fans, all three games against national participants will be on the road this fall. EMU plays at Rutgers-Camden on Sept. 7 as part of a two-day classic. The men are at Dickinson on Oct. 15, as well as ODAC winner Roanoke on Sept. 27.
As part of Eastern Mennonite's Homecoming Weekend, Hampden-Sydney visits on Oct. 12, playing a 4:00pm game. The Royals play at rival Bridgewater this year, taking on the Eagles on Oct. 23. The final home game of the regular season is against Randolph-Macon on Oct. 26, with the schedule wrapping up a few days later at Shenandoah.
The ODAC Tournament will start on Nov. 2.
The Royals finished the 2012 season with a record of 8-11-1 overall and 5-6 in the ODAC. They lost to eventual champion Roanoke 2-1 in the conference quarterfinals. Head Coach Roger Mast picked up his 200th career win last fall, and holds a record of 202-187-35 over his 22 seasons at EMU.
