EMU had a single participant at Saturday's Maroons Final Qualifier in Salem, Va. Junior Grant Amoateng (Bristow, Va./Patriot) made attempts in both the triple jump and long jump, hoping to stick a big leap to earn a trip to the NCAA Indoor National Championships next weekend.

Amoateng went to Nationals in the triple jump last spring after the outdoor season.

On Saturday, Amoateng was the clear standout in the small field of triple jumpers, but he also did not get into a rhythm. His best jump of 13.92m (45ft-8in) was still short of his season best of 14.17m (46ft-6in), leaving him at 35th in the nation. In the long jump, Amoateng was third at the meet at 6.77m (22ft-2.5in).

Amoateng does not expect to be on the list when the national participants are announced Monday morning. Senior Connor Faint (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) has an outside chance in the 400m, where he sits 20th in the nation with an adjusted time of 48.56 from the ODAC Championships last weekend. He would need five men ahead of him to not declare to get into the top 15.
