Royals Get Second Place Team And Individual At Maroon Invitational

The Eastern Mennonite cross country men were at the Maroon Invitational hosted by Roanoke on Saturday.  The Royals had a great showing, taking second place out of eight teams.

Dan Nafziger (Harrisonburg, VA/Harrisonburg) took the lead early on in the 8k race, but settled for second place in 28:13.  Roanoke's Tim Smith won with a time of 27:06.70.

Pete Nelson (Harrisonburg, VA/Christopher Dock) took 12th out of the 59 runners, crossing in 30:07.  Jesse Parker (Wichita, KS/Wichita East) was 23rd overall in 31:31.

Running close together, Nels Akerson (Harrisonburg, VA/Eastern Mennonite) took 33rd while Roberto Wingfield (Glen Allen, VA/Hermitage) was 35th.  Akerson's time was 33:38 with Wingfield coming in at 33:53.  Thomas Millary (Dillsburg, PA/Homeschool) was 42nd in 36:02.

Roanoke had three of the top four finishers and won the team title with 25 points.  EMU was second with 88.  Southern Virginia was third at 103.  The Royals also finished ahead of three other ODAC schools: Randolph, Emory & Henry and Hampden-Sydney.
