The EMU cross country teams will open up a new home course this fall. Their home meet on Sept. 21 in Elkton highlights a 2013 schedule with five competitions set before the ODAC Championships.
Starting this fall, the Royals are using a new course being designed by former EMU coach Sam Woody. The course will be on property behind the Elkton Area Community Center. Coach Jason Lewkowicz said the running paths are canopied by trees and surprisingly flat. Eastern Mennonite will co-host a meet there on Sept. 21, along with Bridgewater College.
In an effort to keep his runners fresh for the ODAC Championships on Nov. 2, Lewkowicz scheduled a meet every other week after the ODAC Preview meet. Hampden-Sydney will host the conference races this fall, with the Preview meet on Aug. 30.
The Royals will also run at meets hosted by Washington and Lee and Appalachian State, as well as the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa. The regional meet is in-state this year, with Christopher Newport hosting on Nov. 16 in Newport News. The National Championships are Nov. 23 in Hanover, Ind.
