Eastern Mennonite University senior Courtney Allman (Mt. Solon, VA/Fort Defiance) closed her final regular season with a bang last week, batting .462 with two homeruns, nine RBIs and six runs scored to help EMU head into the postseason on a 5-game winning streak. On Monday, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference recognized her play by naming her the softball Player of the Week.
Allman highlighted her week on Sunday. After Senior Recognition Day ceremonies honoring her as EMU's lone senior, she drove in the first run against Lynchburg in game one, and capped her day with a three-run homer in her final home at-bat. She finished 3-5 with a homer, three runs and five RBIs as the Lady Royals swept No. 16 Lynchburg.
Heading into the ODAC Tournament, Allman, who is EMU's Career Leader in homeruns, RBIs and walks, is 5th in the ODAC in homers and RBIs, and in the top 10 of most offensive categories.
Allman also holds the Lady Royals' season homerun record, and is trying to break the record for the third year in a row. She set a new mark with eight longballs her sophomore season before hitting nine last spring. Allman currently has eight homers in 2013.
The Lady Royals, 21-17 overall and 9-11 in league play, will take on top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan Friday at noon in the first round of the ODAC Tournament. All games of the double-elimination set-up will be played at the Moyer Complex in Salem, VA, with the championship determined on Sunday.
