Soccer Women Play Eight At Home In 2013

The EMU soccer women are hoping for a 2013 campaign which would span four months.  The Lady Royals announced their 18-game schedule today, which starts Aug. 31 at Marymount.  If the women qualify for the ODAC Tournament, they would be playing in the first weekend of November to accomplish the rare fete of playing in four months.

After playing at Marymount and Gallaudet to open the season, Eastern Mennonite gets their first home match on Sept. 7 against Ferrum.  Washington and Lee comes to Harrisonburg on Sept. 14 for the first Old Dominion Athletic Conference game, followed by Trinity (D.C.) four days later.

The Lady Royals also have a stretch of five home contests over the span of seven games.  That starts with Shenandoah on Oct. 1, and ends with NCAA Tournament qualifier Virginia Wesleyan on Oct. 22.  The women also get rival Bridgewater on the EMU Turf Field on Oct. 16, and host Sweet Briar in the primetime slot at Homecoming on Oct. 12.

Eastern Mennonite also hosts Emory & Henry to round out their eight-game home slate.  They close the regular season with back-to-back road matches at Guilford and Roanoke.

In 2012, injuries depleted a short roster after a 3-2 start to the season.  EMU finished 3-13-1 overall.
