The day started so well before EMU's baseball men dropped both sides of an ODAC doubleheader to visiting Roanoke College on Saturday.

The Royals fall to 10-8 overall and 1-3 in the ODAC. They next play a single game at Washington and Lee University at 4:00pm on Tuesday, before hosting the Generals at 3:00pm on Wednesday.

The opener was a tale of two halves.

Over the first four innings, ace Damon Frazier (Waynesboro, Va./Wilson Memorial) was in control on the mound, while the offense was building a 5-0 lead from the plate.

Leadoff man Griffin Stanley (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) did his job by starting the first with a single. The Royals quickly loaded the bases with nobody out and Frazier got the clutch hit with a two-run double.

Dean Lowery (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) got things rolling in the second with a double and EMU scored two more. Joe Hall (Gladys, Va./Rustburg) added an RBI single in the fourth as the Royals built the sizeable cushion.

Frazier allowed on a pair of harmless singles until finally giving up a single run in the fifth.

But after getting two outs to start the sixth, Frazier hit a wall. He gave up six straight two-out singles as the Maroons dented home four times to tie up the game at 5-5.

Roanoke then took apart EMU's bullpen, grabbing the lead with six runs in the seventh and putting it out of reach with four more in the eighth. The Maroons finished with 19 hits.

Hall batted 2-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Stanley accounted for three runs and Frazier had three RBIs.

John Dudley (Raphine, Va./Riverheads) ended up with the loss, giving up three runs in 0.2 innings of relief. John Judy (Shanks, W.V./Hampshire) was the only unblemished pitcher, getting a 1-2-3 ninth.

The Maroons kept the offense rolling in the second game, combined eight hits through their first four at-bats for a 4-0 lead. They held that margin.

Kyle Mathews (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) had a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth, but Roanoke got them both right back in the fifth. Hall and Zach Roberts (Stuarts Draft, Va./Riverheads) each drove in a run in EMU's half of the fifth, but the visitors got a three-run double in the sixth.

The Royals got two more in the bottom of the sixth, but then went hitless the rest of the way.

Mathews was 2-4 with two RBIs and a run, while Frazier also had a pair of hits.

Starter Tyler Campbell (Luray, Va./Luray) was touched up for six runs in 4.0 innings for the loss. Jake Brown (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) and Spencer Laitinen (Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton) each had scoreless appearances in relief.
