D3baseball.com has named Jaylon Lee (Newport News, Va./Denbigh) to the national Team of the Week. EMU's center fielder hit .444 and accounted for 18 runs over the team's five games last week.
Lee was also named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Week after hitting a pair of home runs, and notching three or more RBIs in three games. Six of his eight hits went for extra bases, giving him a whopping 1.056 slugging percentage.
His highlight came in a 3-for-4 performance against Southern Virginia, where he homered and doubled, driving in four and scoring twice himself. For the week, Lee had 11 RBIs and scored seven times. He also drew three walks and stole a base, while wielding a perfect fielding percentage on 11 chances in center field.
The award was based on games played from last week Monday through Sunday. In today's contest with No. 3 Christopher Newport, just two days after his "award week" ended, Lee went yard again, drilling a three-run homer against the Captains. He now leads the ODAC with 19 RBIs and four home runs, and is 10th with a .405 batting average.
This is the third straight season that at least one EMU Royal was named to the Team of the Week, which honors one player at each position. Zach Roberts (Stuarts Draft, Va./Riverheads) earned a spot last spring, preceded by outfielders Kyle Mathews and Griffin Stanley in 2017.
The Royals (5-6-1) head to Averett on Wednesday before hosting Messiah in a newly scheduled game on Thursday. First pitch both days is slated for 2:30pm.
