Only recently returned from an injury, EMU catcher Ray Tricarico (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) batted .615 last week, including the walk-off RBI single in EMU's 12-inning upset of No. 8 Randolph-Macon. Today the Old Dominion Athletic Conference office named Tricarico the conference's Player of the Week.
The Royals' sophomore batted 8-for-13 in three games last week, scoring five runs and adding two RBIs. He had a slash line of .615/.643/.846.
Tricarico batted 4-5 and scored four runs in Wednesday's 13-10 win at rival Bridgewater, coming a home run short of the cycle. Then in Saturday's nightcap against R-MC, he had three singles and a walk, driving in the game-winning run with a single to left in the bottom of the 12th inning.
For the year, Tricarico is batting a team-best .389. Despite missing most of March with an injury, he is still fifth for EMU with 16 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
After a 2-1 week in conference play, Eastern Mennonite (12-15-1 overall) hosts non-conference games against Southern Virginia on Tuesday and Hood on Wednesday. The Royals will take a 6-8 ODAC mark to Emory & Henry for Saturday's doubleheader.
