A strong start was enough to propel EMU's field hockey women to victory Friday night, as they picked up a 3-0 shutout at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa. Now 2-2 on the season, the Royals will also play Bryn Mawr on Saturday as part of the Wilson College Invitational.

Each team had a few chances early before Lorraine Armstrong (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) got Eastern Mennonite on the board in the 18th minute. The senior tipped in an assist from Emily Price (Hampton, Va./Homeschool), making it 1-0.

The attempts slowed down both ways until the final five minutes of the half. Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) slapped in a score in the 31st minute, and then Courtney Ray (Yorktown, Pa./Yorktown) stuck in her second stroke of the season, this time with 27 seconds left in the frame.

The Royals led 3-0 at halftime.

The women controlled the second half, firing 11 more shots including 10 on goal, but couldn't hit the cage again. For the game, EMU had a 20-4 advantage in shots.

Augsburger and Emily Musselman (Telford, Pa./Souderton) each attempted four shots on goal, while Armstrong finished with three on the mark.

Michelle Danek (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) and Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) split the game in goal, with Danek making three saves in the first half.

Start time tomorrow against Bryn Mawr is 1:00pm.
