Eastern Mennonite looks to exceed expectations this year as they were picked eighth in the 2018 ODAC Field Hockey Preseason Poll. The Royals received 14 points in the vote of the league's coaches, five points ahead of ODAC newcomers Ferrum College.

After finishing last year's season with a record of 5-12, second year coach Ashley Kishorn looks to continue development of the field hockey program as she brings in her first recruiting class of players.

Returning for the Royals are Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and Madeline Mast (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) who will look to contribute experience to a young team. Troyer enters her final season third in EMU career saves and has a chance to break the program record. Mast, a two year starter, will continue to play a key role as a distributing midfielder.

EMU opens the year with a weekend trip to Sewanee, Tenn., on Sept. 1 and 2. The Royals play Transylvania in the opener before getting host Sewanee the next day.
