The EMU field hockey women got off to a good start to their 2019 season as they beat Lancaster Bible on Saturday by a score of 6-0.

The Royals opened the scoring in the 7th minute of the first quarter when Bri Miller (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) tapped in a deflected shot.

EMU would go on to add a second goal four minutes before halftime when Casey Webb (Hampton, Va./Bethel) saw an opportunity in front of the goal and poked in a loose ball.

It only took three minutes into the third quarter until Brandy Troutman (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) sent in a long shot from just inside the circle, that found its way to the back of the net to increase the lead to three.

Freshman Juliana Ghally (Aldie, Va./John Champe) sent in a crossing pass in the 43rd minute, to her fellow rookie Morgan Tricarico (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) who one-timed it past the keeper on the far side of the goal. Then on a set corner play, Tricarico passed it out to Lauren Hartzler (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) who shot and scored just before the quarter break.

Less than a minute into the fourth quarter, Skylar Hedgepeth (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) tallied the sixth EMU goal on a pass from Miller.

The Royals return to action on Wednesday, September 4, when they travel to Hood for a 7:00pm game.

Before today's game began, the EMU field hockey program wanted to take a moment to remember Melissa Troutman, mother of EMU field hockey player Brandy Troutman, who unexpectedly passed away Sunday, August 18th. The Royals field hockey program would like to honor Melissa to dedicate their 2019 season to her memory as well encouraged attendees at today's game to pick up a hand painted rock in her memory.
