Senior Andrew Alderfer (Faber, Va./Nelson County) led the way for EMU's golf men at the ODAC Championships at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. In his final collegiate outing, Alderfer was steady from start to finish of the three rounds of the tournament.
With playing conditions expected to deteriorate overnight due to rain and winds, the tournament was played in one less day, with golfers playing 36 holes on Monday.
Even with light rain starting to come in Monday afternoon, Alderfer remained steady. He shot a 79 on Sunday, followed by rounds of 81 and 80 on Monday, totaling 240 (+24) to finish 35th out of 54 men. The scores were right in line with his average round score for the year, resting at 80.6 over 19 rounds.
Freshman Benjamin Shenk (Elkton, Va./Page County) tied his career low round with a 78 on Monday's first 18 holes. His other rounds were a little higher, putting his tournament score at 259 (+43) in 46th place.
Riley Kingsley (North Newton, Kan./Newton) was similar to Shenk with his low round coming Monday morning at an 82. He came in two strokes back of his teammate at 261 (+45). Austin Sachs (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) put all three of his rounds within three strokes of each other, carding a 262 (+46) for the tournament. Chris Fenn (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) had his best effort Monday morning at a 91, totaling 287 (+71).
The Eastern Mennonite men carded their lowest round of the year Monday morning, as the four scorers totaled 330 (+42). Despite leading Emory & Henry's team over the first two rounds, the Royals slid back on Monday afternoon with their second 346 of the tournament, taking 11th at 1022 (+158).
Guilford College had a commanding performance to take the team title by 33 strokes, scoring an 863 (-1). The Quakers had the top three individuals, including winner Addison Manring and his winning score of 212 (-4).
Alderfer is the lone senior on this year's EMU team.
