EMU's golf men participated in the Marlins Invitation over the weekend, hosted at Beechwood Country Club in Ahoskie, N.C. The Royals took five strokes off their score on Sunday's final day, holding off ODAC rival Roanoke in the team standings.
Riley Kingsley (North Newton, Kan./Newton) led a well-balanced top four, carding rounds of 85 and 84 to finish at 169. Lucas Miller (San Antonio, Texas/Brandeis) had the low round with an 83 on Sunday, and came in at 170 for the tournament. Like Miller, Austin Sachs (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) also took off four strokes on the final day, scoring an 85 to total at 174.
Christopher Elliott (Beaver Springs, Pa./Midd-West) was tied for second on the team with an 87 on Saturday, and finished at 178 to round out the scoring four. Chris Fenn (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) totaled a 198. Benjamin Shenk (Elkton, Va./Page County) participated as an individual, and whacked 10 strokes off his score on the second day, notching an 83 for a total score of 176.
After a team score of 348 on Saturday, Sunday's move up to 343 gave the Royals a total score of 691. Roanoke took off 12 strokes on Sunday, but couldn't overcome EMU, finishing five strokes back.
Averett won the team time with a two-day total of 611. The Cougars also had the top two individuals, including medalist Jorgen Buskbjerg at 148.
The Eastern Mennonite men are back in action this weekend, golfing Saturday and Sunday at the Mary Washington Eagle Invitational at the Augustine Golf Club in Stafford, Va.
