Men In High Gear To Finish Hill City Invite

Led by Ben Shenk (Elkton, Va./Page County) and Troy Hodge (Staunton, Va./Buffalo Gap), EMU's golf men made a huge second day improvement in their first tournament of the spring. The Royals took off 31 strokes on Tuesday, the best margin of any of the 10 teams at the Hill City Invitational at the Boonsboro Country Club.

Hodge landed an eagle on Monday, but was more consistent on the final day. He made a seven-stroke improvement to card an 80 (+8) on Tuesday, finishing tied for 29th at 167 (+23).

Shenk took off 16 strokes on his second day, jumping 11 spots in the standings. That was the biggest move made by any of the 54 golfers. Shenk shot a 77 (+5) on Tuesday, tied for 35th at 170 (+26).

Christopher Elliott (Beaver Springs, Pa./Midd-West) matched Hodge by taking off seven strokes, carding a 179 (+35) for the tourney. Chris Fenn (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) shot a 189 (+45).

The Royals shot a four-man score of 368 on Monday, trimming down to a 337 today. They were ninth out of ten teams at 705 (+129).

Next up for Eastern Mennonite is the Marlins Invitational on March 21 and 22. The event will be at the Cypress Point Country Club in Virginia Beach, Va.
