  • Eshleman And Blankenship Take Top 2012-13 Honors

    Eastern Mennonite University held its Athletic Honors Banquet on April 16 in a time of reflecting upon and honoring the journeys of the Royals' student-athletes. Seniors Ryan Eshleman and Jennifer Blankenship won the President’s Awards, the highest award given by the athletic department.
  • Royals Set New High For ODAC All-Academic Team

    Eastern Mennonite University set a new high for student-athletes named to the annual Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, as 80 Royals were honored. Last year EMU landed 61 on the list.

    With the 2012-13 EMU athletic seasons officially in the books, it seems a good time to take a look at those books - the record books.   • VaSID Recognizes Six Royals To Academic Team

    Six EMU student-athletes have been honored by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID), being named to the Academic All-State Team.
  • Soccer Men To Host Alumni Event On April 6

    The Eastern Mennonite University men's soccer program is hosting an alumni event on Saturday, April 6, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. All men's soccer alumni are invited to participate, with the hopes of having enough alumni participate to be able to play a few games at the event.
  • Eshleman First Royal To Earn Back-To-Back All-State First Team Honors

    Senior defender Ryan Eshleman can add one more piece of hardware to his trophy case – a second All-State First Team honor. EMU’s men’s soccer player was named one of the top players in Virginia for the second straight season, after also being named to the First Team as a junior.

    The Old Dominion Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2012 ODAC/StellarOne Sportsmanship Teams in each of seven fall sports sponsored by the conference. This marks the fourth year the league has recognized these fine student-athletes for their excellence in sportsmanship.

    The Royals nearly pulled off an upset in the ODAC Quarterfinals Saturday afternoon, scoring early at top-seeded Roanoke. But the Maroons got an equalizer late in the first half, and then got the game winner in the 74th minute, eliminating the eighth-seeded EMU soccer men from the ODAC Tournament by a final score of 2-1.

    The Eastern Mennonite soccer men have earned a spot in the 2012 ODAC Tournament, getting in as the eighth and final seed. The Royals will play at top-seeded Roanoke Saturday at 1:00pm.

    The EMU soccer men suffered a tough loss Saturday, falling 4-0 at Virginia Wesleyan. The two teams entered the day tied in a group of four teams grouped in fourth place in the ODAC standings. After the loss, the Royals are tied for seventh with Bridgewater and Hampden-Sydney heading into the final game of the year.
  • Shank Sends Men To 2-1 Victory With 1:55 Left

Wednesday night, the Eastern Mennonite men got their own dramatic win when sophomore Jacob Shank scored the game-winner with just 1:55 left in regulation, giving the Royals a potentially momentum-building 2-1 victory at Emory & Henry.

    The Royals broke a four-game losing streak Wednesday, as freshman Christian Rhine notched his first career hat trick. His final score came late in overtime, sending Eastern Mennonite to a thrilling 3-2 win at Randolph-Macon.

    Two weeks ago, the EMU soccer men completed their fourth straight shutout win. Since then, the Royals have fallen prey to a negative streak, suffering four straight losses and all by a 2-1 score. The latest in the streak was a loss at home to Roanoke on Friday night.

    When you are picked seventh in the ODAC preseason poll, fighting for a top four seed and home playoff game seems like a solid goal. But to do that, it helps to knock off the other teams fighting for the same spot. Eastern Mennonite did just that Saturday, taking a 2-0 win at Hampden-Sydney, which was picked to finish fifth in the league.

    Featuring mostly new starters on the field, the Eastern Mennonite men’s soccer team opened up their 2012 campaign with a neutral field game against Marymount hosted by Mary Washington in Fredericksburg. EMU got a late goal in regulation to tie the score and earn a 1-1 draw.
