Similar to their women's counterparts, the EMU soccer men will start their 2019 season at home.
Long-time Royals coach Roger Mast released his team's 19-game schedule, which starts when York (Pa.) visits Harrisonburg on Friday, August 30. The game with the Spartans is part of the two-day EMU/Bridgewater Soccer Classic, as the two rivals swap opponents to start the year. Eastern Mennonite hosts William Peace on Saturday, August 31.
This is the third time in the past four seasons the two teams have combined their opponents on opening weekend.
The EMU men then play six of their eight September games on the road, including a trip to Sewanee, Tenn., on Sept. 6-7 to play Sewanee and Berry. After hosting Hood and traditional power Messiah at a Rowdy Royals Game, the Royals play three more away from home. That stretch wraps up with a non-conference game at Bridgewater on Sept. 25.
Eastern Mennonite then plays five of nine at home in October. After another non-conference game against a league rival in Roanoke on Oct. 2, the Royals host Randolph-Macon in the primetime match on EMU Homecoming on Oct. 12. They also welcome in Ferrum and Hampden-Sydney before bringing in Washington and Lee to close the regular season on Oct. 29.
The men play ODAC road games against Guilford, Shenandoah, Lynchburg and Randolph.
Along with BC and Roanoke, the Royals also miss out on games against Virginia Wesleyan and Emory & Henry due to the ODAC's unbalanced schedule.
The Royals host a preseason exhibition against D-I Virginia Military Institute on Saturday, August 24.
Eastern Mennonite finished the 2018 season with a record of 9-9-1 overall and 6-4 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, earning the No. 5 seed in the postseason tournament.
