The EMU soccer men travelled to Southern Virginia and walked away with a 1-0 win on Wednesday night to improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Royals came out with an edge in the first half applying immediate offensive pressure, but were unable to find the net on any of their seven first half shot attempts and went into halftime scoreless.

EMU was able to set up a couple corner kick chances early in the second half. In the 64th minute the Royals were finally able to capitalize. Carlos Flores-Melgar (Woodbridge, Va./Gar-Field) was able to put one past the keeper after taking a pass from Jesus Trejo (Winchester, Va./John Handley).

The lone goal would hold up for EMU as their defense would hold tight despite the Knights firing off seven shots in the half. Ahmed Zaatar (Barboursville, Va./William Monroe) had three saves in goal.

The Royals head on the road this weekend traveling to Sewanee, Tenn. playing in the Kyle Rote, Jr. Invitational. They play at host Sewanee Friday at 7:00pm before taking on Berry at 3:00pm on Saturday.
