The EMU soccer men lost at home to Messiah by a score of 2-1 on Saturday night. This was the Rowdy Royals Game where all of EMU's student athletes were in attendance for support.

The first half was offensively controlled by the Falcons who outshot the Royals 14-4, but the EMU back line defense held strong to take the game into halftime scoreless.

In the 56th minute, a foul was called just outside the EMU keeper box that gave Messiah a free kick opportunity. Reid Ruark drove a shot to the top left of the net to put the Falcons out in front.

The Royals responded in the 73rd minute when Caleb Oakes (Waynesboro, Va./Stuarts Draft) found space to drive through the left side of the field. He took a shot that hit the right post and rebounded to the awaiting foot of Leiyan Kariuki (Nairobi, Kenya/St. Patricks) who tapped the ball in to tie the game.

As time was running out in the 87th minute, Messiah found room in their offensive zone as Ben Lefever took a pass from Shay Quintin and scored the eventual game-winner.

The Falcons outshot EMU 30-10 as Ahmed Zaatar (Barboursville, Va./William Monroe) compiled 12 saves in net for the Royals.

EMU hits the road for their next contest as they travel to Gallaudet on Wednesday, September 18 for a 7:00pm game.
