Junior Tyler Denlinger (Perkasie Pa./Christopher Dock) broke the school record in the 1500m at Friday's Wolfpack Last Chance Meet in Raleigh, N.C. He crossed in 3:53.68 to break his PR by more than three seconds and topple Richy Bikko's EMU record of 3:54.91.
Denlinger's previous best was a 3:57.04, set just two weeks ago at the ODAC Championships. He was 13th overall at the meet hosted by D-I North Carolina State, and was the top D-III runner. The time also vaulted him into the national picture, landing him at No. 30 in the nation.
The top 20 men in each event qualify for the NCAA National Meet, which is May 26-28 in Waverly, Iowa.
Classmate Alec Thibodeaux (Mount Sidney, Va./Fort Defiance) also ran at the Wolfpack Last Chance, and also broke his PR, finishing 23rd overall with a time of 3:58.57. He was fifth among D-III runners. Thibodeaux's previous best also came at the ODAC meet, as he just edged his 3:58.72. He stands fifth all-time at EMU with his new PR.
Eastern Mennonite's track and field teams have one more chance to improve their marks for a potential national bid, participating in the SWAT Last Chance Meet on May 16 in Swarthmore, Pa.
