Highlighted by sophomore Isaac Alderfer (Broadway, Va./Broadway), the EMU track & field teams had a successful end to the indoor season on Saturday.
Running at the South Region Final Qualifier in Winchester, Va., Alderfer not only broke his PR in the 800m, he toppled a 13-year-old program record. His time of 1:54.97 was 1.6 seconds faster than his previous and also broke the EMU record of 1:55.84, held by Luke Yoder since 2007.
Jansen Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) broke his PR in the mile, winning the race with time of 4:39.94. That was 10 seconds better than his early-season best. The freshman also ran in the 800m, earning a time of 2:13.82.
In the 3000m, Justice Allen (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) nudged his PR in 9:19.71.
Kendra Oguamena (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) was EMU's only female athlete at the meet, and she crossed fifth in the 60m in a time of 8.27.
With no Royals athletes expected to qualify for next weekend's NCAA National Championships, the meet marked the end of the indoor season for EMU. They will get a weekend off before the outdoor season starts at the Washington and Lee Carnival in Lexington, Va., on March 20 and 21.

A great end of the indoor season. One school record and three PRs! I'm so proud of Isaac. After a 20-month break from track, coming back into top form is not easy. His performance today bodes well for the outdoor season!
