EMU's volleyball men made it two in a row Saturday morning, sweeping past Neumann in CVC action. It was the Royals' second conference win in less than 17 hours after beating Cairn Friday night in another 3-0 win.
Travis Abele (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) had a repeat all-around effort, headlined by 10 kills and no errors on 16 attacks, earning a .625 kill percentage. He also had eight set assists, six digs and two of EMU's 11 aces.
The 11 aces as a team marked a season high, as well as the first time this year that the Royals had more aces than service errors (10). Eastern Mennonite also hit .343 as a team, behind only a .354 effort against Immaculata on Feb. 9.
With the efficient attack aided by strong back row play, the men were in charge all day and trailed just once when the Knights scored the first point of the second set. EMU had 12 runs of three or more points, and rolled to wins of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-11.
Hunter Taylor (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) had five kills and three aces, while R.J. Ocampo (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) also landed three aces. Jacob Durren (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) had four kills on eight swings and made two blocks. Sean Wright (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) added four kills and seven digs. Wyatt Bollinger (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) had 20 assists.
Libero Austin Tomlin (Greenville, Va./Riverheads) led all players with 10 digs.
Ryan Bollinger topped Neumann with four kills and nine digs.
Eastern Mennonite stays at home on Monday, playing an early match at 1:00pm against Wittenberg before getting a rest over the remainder of EMU's Spring Break.
