The EMU volleyball men won their second game of the day at the Alvernia Tri-Match as they swept Lehman 3-0. After dropping the first game to the tri-match host, the Royals were able to leave Reading, Pa. with a win under their belt.

The men return home for a pair of CVC games as they wrap up their last week of classes before Spring Break. On Friday, Feb. 28 they host Elizabethtown at 7:00pm before playing the always tough Juniata at 1:00pm on Saturday.

Alvernia 3, EMU 0

The Royals struggled to get their offense rolling in their first game while Alvernia hit .375 in the match. After a quick 25-11 score in the first set, the second was back-and-forth as Tyler Oaks (Newport News, Va./Heritage) landed a kill to make it 8-7. The Golden Wolves found their stride after that to rally off a 17-6 point run and take the second set 25-13.

Josh White (Chesapeake, Va./Bishop Sullivan) brought EMU within two points in the third set at 10-8, but another strong finish by Alvernia gave them the third set victory 25-16.

Martin Pou (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) had a team high seven kills to go along with two solo blocks. Wyatt Bollinger (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) had 18 assists as Oaks finished with eight digs.

EMU 3, Lehman 0

Game two was a different story for the Royals as they hit .427 on their way to a three-set sweep. After falling into a 4-3 deficit, Bollinger earned a kill to spark the offense to a 10-2 run before taking the first set 25-14.

Bollinger and White stuffed the first Lehman attack of the second set to set themselves up for the 25-12 set win. Jacob Durren (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) scored the last three points on kills as the Royals hit .520 in the set, racking up 14 kills while only committing one error.

The third set was the closest of the day. EMU jumped out in front taking a 5-1 lead early. The Lightning would match them in scoring the rest of the way until they trailed by three as EMU led 18-15. A kill by White then an ace by Bollinger had the Royals back up by six with only four points to go. Then errors plagued Lehman as EMU went on to take the set 25-19.

Ben Childers (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) led the Royals with 11 kills while picking up two aces. White finished with eight kills and six blocks. Durren added nine kills. Bollinger had 30 assists and Andrew Livioco (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore) had 10 digs.
