When the race starts Friday at 6:00pm, it will end a dry spell of nearly two decades.
The EMU Mennonite Heritage Cross Country Invitational, run on athletic fields of Eastern Mennonite University and neighboring Eastern Mennonite School, will be the first meet on EMU's campus since 2002.
Both the women and men will run on a 5k course, designed by Coach Bob Hepler. The best viewing areas for the looping course will be from the bleachers on the EMS soccer field or at the finish line, which is on EMU's grass practice field, south of the main Turf Field.
The EMU Mennonite Heritage Cross Country Invitational is also designated at the program's first ever Rowdy Royals meet, with all of the other EMU student-athletes in attendance. Giveaways for EMU students include headbands supplied by Campus Activities Council, as well as t-shirts and pizza.
Visiting teams at this year's meet will be Mary Baldwin, St. Mary's (Md.) and Hampden-Sydney.
