Softball Women Win Four More In Myrtle Beach

Eastern Mennonite's softball team picked up four more wins at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on Monday and Tuesday afternoon, outlasting Wilkes University (4-2), Chatham University (1-3), Sage College (1-2), and Medaille College (3-2). 

EMU 2, Wilkes 0  
Kelsi Martin 
(Buena Vista, Va./Parry McClue) pitched a two-hit shutout to win the complete game in the circle for the Royals. 

EMU struck for their two runs in the top of the fifth inning as Makayla Morris (Stanardsville, Va./William Monroe) hit a two RBI single allowing Danielle Brenneman (Waynesboro, Va./Stuarts Draft) and Erin Rockwell (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) to score. 

EMU 9, Chatham 1 
In game two on Monday afternoon, Sydney Reath (Williamsburg, Va./Mercersburg Academy) jumpstarted and provided the spark, after smacking her first RBI double to center field to send Morris and Tiffani Shaheen (Fluvanna, Va./Fluvanna County) past home plate. 

In the third, a bases loaded walk sent Morris home to make it 3-0. Rockwell then hit an RBI double to center, allowing Reath and Alia Miller (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) to score. 

The Cougars got on the board in the fourth, 5-1, but Morris and Shaheen would score again off of another Reath double. Reath scored on Sam Breeden's (Aroda, Va./Madison County) fly out to center field. 

After a scoreless fifth, Shaheen closed out scoring for the game after Reath doubled to left field, making it 9-1. 

Reath finished 4-4 from the plate with two runs and four RBIs. Shaheen and Morris were each 1-3 with three runs.

In the circle, Miller was again the leader, only allowing one run on five hits in the complete game win. 

EMU 3, Sage 2 
Despite being limited to five hits, the Royals were able to rally in the bottom of the seventh to take the game from Sage College. 

The Gators got on the board in the first inning, scoring one off of two hits, an error, and leaving two on base.

Both teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the third when Brenneman singled and then advanced to third after a steal and a Gators' throwing error. Brenneman tagged home plate after Shaheen singled out to second base. The Gators responded in the fifth to take the lead at 2-1.

The Royals tied things up in the bottom of the fifth after Shaheen hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Rockwell to score. 

With one out and two runners in scoring position, Reath sent the ball down the left field line allowing Shaheen the winning run, making the final score 3-2. 

Martin (4-0) earned the win for EMU after striking out eight and allowing two runs off of six hits. 

EMU 3, Medaille 1
The Royals got on the board in the first inning after Shaheen singled and stole a couple of bases put herself in scoring position. Reath followed up with a single to send Shaheen across the plate.

The Mavericks scored in the bottom of the third to knot the game at 1-1.

Beck Hoskins (Danville, Va./Westover Christian Academy) hit an RBI double in the fourth sending Reath home. After a couple of scoreless innings, Deborah Black (Stuarts Draft, Va./Stuarts Draft) scored after Rockwell smacked an RBI double to cap the scoring, 3-1. 

Reath pitched the complete game for the Royals, allowing only one run on five hits and striking out five. 

Eastern Mennonite plays its final two games in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, taking on Mount Aloysius at 9:30 and Eureka at 1:30.
