The EMU softball team has been picked eleventh in the ODAC Preseason Poll. The Royals received 19 points as voted on by the coaches behind Randolph and Shenandoah in the field of 11 schools.

Reigning ODAC Tournament champions Virginia Wesleyan were picked to win the conference for the fifth year in a row. Randolph-Macon was picked fourth after earning a trip to the National Championship last season.

Returning for EMU is All-ODAC Second Team member Sierra Lantz (Broadway, Va./Broadway) who batted .375 in conference play with three home runs and 14 RBI on the season. Senior Cassidey Chrisman (Staunton, Va./Riverheads) is also back after batting .309 with 17 RBI last year. Sophomores Emily Campbell (Broadway, Va./Broadway) and Katelin Martin (Goochland, Va./Goochland) return in the circle after throwing valuable innings in their rookie seasons.

The Royals finished 2019 with a record of 16-20 and 5-15 in conference play ending in a tie with Randolph for tenth in the ODAC.

EMU opens the 2020 season at Southern Virginia with a doubleheader on Feb. 27 starting at 2:00pm. The women will then go to North Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on March 1. They play their home opener against Randolph-Macon on March 18.

The ODAC tournament will be held the weekend of April 24-26 at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va., in an eight team double-elimination tournament.
