The EMU basketball women lost to conference opponent Washington and Lee tonight by a score of 81-52. The loss drops the Royals to 2-7 on the year and 1-3 in the ODAC while the Generals improve to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference.
Washington and Lee came out firing on all cylinders starting the game on a 12-0 run and kept going from there. EMU did not make their first shot attempt until Jourdyn Friend (Richmond, Va./Meadowbrook) made a layup at the 2:24 mark to make the score 23-3.
The Royals got things going in the second quarter and matched the Generals in scoring at 12 apiece. Chrissy Delawder (Broadway, Va./Broadway) made a three-pointer just before the buzzer to go into halftime down 42-17.
EMU started the second half on a 7-0 run to get back within 18 points, but the Generals stormed back to increase their lead enough to where the Royals could not come back.
EMU shot a season low 31.7% (20-63) from the floor while shooting 18.8% (3-16) from three while Washington and Lee shot 41.8% (28-67) and 41.7% (10-24) from behind the arc.
The Royals were led in scoring by Emily McCombs (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) who had 10 points and six rebounds. Jess Washington (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) had nine points while Dean finished with eight points and three blocks.
Erin Hughes led the Generals in scoring with 19 points and nine rebounds with Taylor Casey adding 17 points.
The Royals play their next game on the road at Ferrum on Saturday, December 8, at 4:00pm.
