The EMU lacrosse women won their first ever home game in an offensive outburst as they beat Bethany by a score of 15-10 on Wednesday.

The Royals pick up their first win of the season as they improve their record to 1-1.

Cat Hammond (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) got the scoring started as she netted the first ever goal scored on the EMU Turf Field. Morgan Tricarico (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) scored the next goal on her way to a five goal performance.

Kenzie Gardner (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) and Juliana Ghally (Aldie, Va./John Champe) scored back-to-back goals within a minute to push the EMU lead to 4-0 just under 10 minutes into play before Bethany responded with two goals of their own.

Katie Johnson (Henrico, Va./Mills E. Godwin) scored the eighth goal for the Royals to cap their first half scoring, but the Bison would finish with three goals in the final 1:28 of the first half before going into halftime with EMU leading 8-5.

Just as Bethany crept up to a two-goal deficit, Mykenzie Davis (Lititz, Pa./Day Spring Christian) extended the lead for the Royals by pushing their lead to 11-8. Bri Garcia-Sanchez (Gettysburg, Pa./New Oxford) scored the fifteenth and final goal for EMU as the game was well in hand with 2:41 left in the second half.

Tricarico finished with game-highs of five goals, two assists, and eight draw controls with four ground balls and a caused turnover. Ghally scored three goals with two ground balls. Hammond had two goals, an assist, five ground balls, and a caused turnover. Davis had two goals, three draw controls, and a ground ball.

Arianna Nixon (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) earned the win by getting the start in the cage as she picked up six saves. Callie Habr (Virginia Beach, Va./Bayside) played the second half as the goalkeeper and had five saves.

The Royals next scheduled game at Notre Dame of Maryland has been postponed. They play at home in their next contest as they host Southern Virginia on Tuesday, March 17 at 5:00pm.
