In a very physical contest, the EMU soccer women lost a 2-0 conference match at home to Randolph-Macon today.
The Yellow Jacket offense controlled the ball aggressively for the vast majority of the game. After being bottled up by the Royals defenders, Randolph-Macon eventually capitalized on a turnover in the box and Casey Kent scored the first goal of the match in the 28th minute.
Kent would also score the second goal of the game in the 48th minute.
EMU's opportunity to score on their only shot of the contest came from the foot of Rachel Sauder (Lyndhurst, Va./Stuarts Draft), but it was saved by the Yellow Jacket goalkeeper.
Despite being outshot 28-1, the defense kept the Royals within striking distance the entire match, led by goalkeeper Leah Wenger (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) who had a career high 14 saves in net for the Royals.
EMU looks to bounce back this week as they head to Sweet Briar on Wednesday to play at 5:00pm.
