Royals Break Program Record In First Conference Win

The EMU soccer women broke the program record with 11 goals in one game in the 11-0 win over Sweet Briar today. The previous record had been 10 goals which was achieved twice.

The Royals earned their first conference victory of the season with a whole team contribution as each goal was scored by a different player.

Rachel Sauder (Lyndhurst, Va./Stuarts Draft) got the scoring started early in the match as she was able to control a ball off of a corner kick in the 2nd minute.

In the 13th minute Laura Rittenhouse (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) scored her third goal of the season off a cross from Makayla Taylor (Madison, Va./Madison County). Hannah York (Richmond, Va./John Randolph Tucker) would contribute for the next goal in the 15th minute which was also assisted by Taylor.

Chloe Weaver (Linville, Va./Broadway) scored her first goal of the season in the 18th minute on a shot to the far post. Then to follow, Shaylla Oswald (Broadway, Va./Broadway) scored her first goal of the season in the 24th minute.

Continuing the trend, Leigh Lumsden (Madison, Va./Madison County) would find the back of the net off a pass from Emily Hostetler (Marshallville, Ohio/Smithville) in the 32nd minute. Moments late in the 35th minute, senior Logann Braun (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) would go on to tally her first goal of the season.

The second half scoring started in the 55th minute when Taylor scored her first goal of the season when she put the ball in the near post.

Brittney Timmons (Unionville, Va./Orange County) added to the barrage in the 68th minute when she controlled a rebounded shot from the previous penalty kick and scored.

The Royals were able to tie the program record for most goals in a game in the 85th minute on a goal scored by Liz Huffman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area) that was assisted by Sylvia Mast (Broadway, Va./Eastern Mennonite).

In the closing moments of the game, EMU broke the record when Olivia Dalke (Dallas, Ore./Dallas) scored her first goal of the season that was assisted by Ariel Barbosa (Baltimore, Md./Towson) in the 89th minute.

The Royals return to action on Saturday, October 6, when they host Hollins at 7:00pm.
