The EMU soccer women continued their hot start with a 2-1 win at Meredith on Saturday afternoon to improve to 4-0 on the season.

The Royals started the game off applying offensive pressure to the Avenging Angels before cracking the scoreless bout. At the 27 minute mark Ariel Barbosa (Baltimore, Md./Towson) found the back of the net for her second goal of the season after just missing on a previous shot.

Meredith found the scoreboard in the 40th minute when Lilian Fox scored to take the game into halftime tied.

EMU was able to get seven shots off in the second half before finally connecting. Leigh Lumsden (Madison, Va./Madison County) took a pass from Laura Rittenhouse (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) in the 83rd minute and scored the eventual game-winner as time dwindled down.

After taking the lead, the Royals defense did not allow the Avenging Angels to get a shot off before the final horn sounded. Leah Wenger (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) had three saves in net.

The women had their originally scheduled game for Sunday get cancelled, so the next match they will play will be on Wednesday, September 11, when they travel to McDaniel to play at 4:00pm.
