Just days away from her final collegiate track meet, Eastern Mennonite's Hannah Chappell-Dick (Bluffton, Ohio/Bluffton) was named the South/Southeast Region Athlete of the Year.
This is the third time the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) gave Chappell-Dick the award, joining similar honors from the 2015 indoor and outdoor track seasons.
The All-American is ranked in the top-12 of two events nationally — the 1500m and the 800m. In her specialty, the 1500m, Chappell-Dick's time of 4:28.62 leaves her fifth, while her 2:10.26 effort in the 800m has her 12th. Both marks are first in the South/Southeast Region this year.
After finishing third in the 1500m at last year's National Championships, Chappell-Dick gets one more chance at the distance to add to her total of four overall All-America medals. She runs in the preliminaries of the NCAA meet this Thursday in Waverly, Iowa. The finals will be Saturday afternoon.
