EMU has some fantastic finishes in the field events at Saturday's Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg University.

Jamel Howard (Leesburg, Va./Tuscarora) earned second place in the high jump to highlight the day, while senior Grant Amoateng (Bristow, Va./Patriot) landed third in the triple jump.

The Royals' distance runners were held out of the meet, where they would have battled fierce winds. They will get a chance to run at Wednesday's Liberty Twilight Qualifier in Lynchburg, Va.

Howard had easily his best finish of the season and broke his PR by clearing 2.02m (6ft-7.5in). The junior was the top collegiate athlete at the meet and moved into a tie for No. 19 in the nation, putting himself into contention for a trip to Nationals.

In the long jump, Howard landed at 6.36m (20ft-10.5in).

Amoateng stuck his best triple jump at 14.11m (46ft-3.5in) to finish second out of D-III participants.

"Jamel and Grant responded really well after coming off an ODAC Championship meet that they felt they left a lot on the table," Associate Coach Erick Camodeca explained. "Grant was able to hit a 14-meter jump and gain confidence going into next week. Jamel was the highlight in hitting a career best in high jump and top-20 jump in the country. There's a lot of excitement as we head into the final stretch."

Wade Banks (Basye, Va./Stonewall Jackson) finished 14th in the high jump, clearing 1.82m (5ft-11.5in). He also came in just shy of his PR in the 110m hurdles at 16.34, and in the 400m hurdles at 59.97.

Fellow freshman Alijah Johnson (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass) ran an 11.22 in the 100m dash and crossed in 22.91 in the 200m.

Danielle Spears (Herndon, Va./South Lakes) was the only women's participant for the EMU track & field teams. She put together a triple jump of 10.05m (32ft-11.75in).
