EMU's volleyball women took two tough ODAC losses Saturday in a tri-match at University of Lynchburg.

The Royals fall to 3-13 with the losses. They will look to end the losing streak on Tuesday when they host Southern Virginia at 7:00pm in Yoder Arena.

Lynchburg 3, EMU 1
After dropping their first two sets, the women came back to win the third set. The teams traded back-and-forth points, with no lead larger than three until they were tied at 13. Then the Royals took advantage of Lynchburg errors to increase their lead to as large as six to cap off the third set.

That momentum carried into the fourth set as EMU maintained a lead until the score was tied at nine. Then attacking errors hurt the Royals and gave the host Hornets a large enough lead to hold on to win the set and the match in four sets. The Royals hit their best rate of the day in the third set swinging at a .286 hitting percentage.

Hannah Johnson (Staunton, Va./Wilson Memorial) led the Royals with 18 kills and 13 digs in the match. Candice Shaheen (Scottsville, Va./Fluvanna County) had 11 digs while Carly Gingerich (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) had 27 assists for EMU. Beck Hoskins (Danville, Va./Westover Christian Academy) also added six blocks and two kills.

Roanoke 3, EMU 0
The Royals were unable to slow down the Roanoke offense in the opener with losses of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-14. The Maroons swung at a rate of .400 and .433 in the second and third sets while picking up 15 kills in each.

Maria Yoder (Manheim, Pa/Hempfield) and Erin Brubaker (Goessel, Kan./Goessel) led the Royals with 7 kills each.

Johnson had 6 kills and 7 digs while Gingerich had 13 assists to add to the effort.
