Lancaster Bible played almost error-free volleyball and the Royals could not keep up, dropping a straight sets decision in non-conference action Tuesday night.
The Eastern Mennonite women (5-15) return to ODAC play for two big home matches later this week, hosting Hollins Thursday night and Ferrum on Saturday. EMU will need two wins in their hunt to return to the ODAC Tournament at the end of this month.
The Royals came out well against LBC (14-6), earning a 10-7 lead in the first set. But when senior middle Maria Yoder (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) left the court after losing her footing on her only kill of the night, the void she left became evident. Lancaster Bible responded with a 5-0 run for their first lead and quickly pushed it up to 16-11. A strong finish gave LBC a 25-15 win in the opener.
The visitors took an 11-5 lead in the second, and EMU was never able to get closer than three points in a 25-19 score. Another early run in the third produced a similar result, as Lancaster Bible closed out with another 25-15 decision.
The Royals hit .047 as a team, while LBC made just eight attack errors and finished with a .314 clip. Erin Brubaker (Goessel, Kan./Goessel) and Hannah Johnson (Staunton, Va./Wilson Memorial) each had six kills, and Beck Hoskins (Danville, Va./Westover Christian Academy) added four with no errors. Meredith Stinnette (Lynch Station, Va./Altavista) had five kills on only eight attacks in her two sets on the court. Carly Gingerich (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) had 15 set assists while Tori Wigley (Elkton, Va./East Rockingham) contributed nine.
Johnson led from the back row with 13 digs, with libero Tarynn Clark (Goshen, Ind./Bethany Christian) adding 11.
Ashtyn Bouslog had 11 kills with a .478 attack percentage to lead Lancaster Bible.
