Fifth-year women's volleyball coach Carrie Bert has released the schedule for the upcoming 2019 season, and it is heavy on home matches early on.

Nine of the team's first ten matches will be in Yoder Arena, including seven straight to start the year. That includes the long-running season-opening invitational, now co-hosted with Bridgewater College and named the Route 42 Classic. Those contests are Friday and Saturday, August 30-31.

Eastern Mennonite's schedule starts with Delaware Valley, Meredith, Bryn Mawr and Salem at the Route 42 Classic. The slate includes a tough mix of opponents, highlighted by three 2018 NCAA Tournament teams: Meredith, Marymount and Washington and Lee.

The Royals also host St. Mary's (Md.), Hood and Lancaster Bible before their first road match at ODAC-rival Hollins on Sept. 10. Mary Baldwin and Virginia Wesleyan then come to Harrisonburg before the women finish up September with five matches away from home.

Highlights in October's portion of the schedule include home dates with Bridgewater, Washington and Lee, Goucher and Mount Aloysius, as well as the Oct. 5 match with Shenandoah which will be the women's senior recognition and a Rowdy Royals Match.

On the road, EMU plays a tri-match at Penn State-Harrisburg on Sept. 22. Roanoke College hosts an ODAC tri-match on Sept. 28, which also includes Lynchburg. Then the Royals head to Lynchburg on Oct. 18 and 19 for an ODAC quad-match hosted by Randolph. EMU will play the host WildCats and Guilford College.

The regular season ends with a non-conference match against Marymount on Nov. 2, hosted by Bridgewater.

The Royals do not have a match scheduled for EMU's Homecoming Weekend, but instead are hosting a women's volleyball alumni match on Oct. 12. A reception will follow. All former players and coaches are encouraged to contact graduate assistant Jasmine Johnson for more information or to sign up. Email or call 540-432-4425.

EMU's women finished last season with a record of 8-20 overall and 2-10 in the ODAC.
