EMU cross country runner Michaela Mast (Broadway, Va./Eastern Mennonite) has earned a major award from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, being named as the league's Rookie of the Year. The award came by a vote of the league's coaches, taking into account the entire season.
Mast was previously named the ODAC Rookie of the Meet after finishing as the top newcomer at the ODAC Championships. She was second overall in the race. At the ODAC meet, Mast was also named the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete, posting a 4.0 GPA as a psychology major.
Mast enjoyed a banner first collegiate season as a cross country runner despite classifying as a senior academically. She finished as the runner-up at the ODAC Championships with a time of 22:12.8. She added a 16th place showing at Regionals to her portfolio, posting a time of 22:16.5 and falling just a few spots shy of a bid to the national meet. Including the ODAC Championships, Mast finished in the top-two in four of her six competitions. Her best regular season time came in the white division of the Paul Short Run with a time of 23:11.40.
She was also a two-time ODAC Runner of the Week during the season.
The Eastern Mennonite women finished third as a team at the ODAC Championships, and then ninth at the South/Southeast Regional meet.
